The Turing Test

The Turing Test is a test of an artificial intelligence’s ability to hold a conversation with a human.  If the “robot” fools a person as many times as it doesn’t then it passes the Turing Test.  This year the Elbot got about a 25% score, meaning it fooled 25% of the judges in this years test.  Pretty amazing if you ask me.  Even cooler is that Elbot has an online website where you can talk to it.  You can do so here.  I originally thought that it wasn’t very believable, but I had to stop and wonder what kind of conversation I would’ve had with it if I didn’t know it was a robot.  Maybe I wouldn’t have been trying to trick it so much.  Either way the robot came back with some eerily human responses at times.  It actually has a bit of a sense of humor as well.  For instance when I pointed out that it wasn’t making much sense, it told me that it was testing me to see if I was a robot or not!

Anyway, i thought it was cool, and I decided to share.  I promise next post will have less geeky, and more pictures of our cute kids.

oh Tim. I love you. You could never be too geeky for me :).
Tim does make a good point. It is a little scary. We have to be careful, this robot may just be the first step toward a robot takeover of the entire human race! 😉
p.s. Tim makes me watch a Terminator Robot show with him every week!

OK… I talked to that guy (I called him Steve) for about 20 minutes. It was VERY interesting… I’m not truly convinced it was a computer until he said calling him a computer was like calling a human a bag of carbon parts. He is a robot.

    Can defensiveness be programmed?

    Very cool though!!!
