Darn Socks

What a weekend. My folks came up for a belated PJ 1st Birthday Weekend.

We did some city exploring on Thursday. We conquered Grand Ave. A great place to spend the morning. Lots of neat little shops and great cafes. I stocked up on some of Tim and my favorite spices from Penzey’s. And had a great lunch at Cafe Late.

Friday we played at the house all day long. Serious Nama and Papa time. The boys and the Grandparents loved it.

Saturday, Tim joined the fun as we headed for the MOA, Mall of America. We started the day with a terror filled trip through the Underwater Adventures Aquarium. The boys loved it. I was the only one terror filled. PJ touched sharks and sting rays. Michael loved the Nemo fish tank. But the biggest hit was the tunnel fish tank that you walked through with fish to the right, left and up above. I fought off a panic attack. The boys pointed and squealed!

We hit a few of the key MOA shops. Al’s Farm Store, Michael was in “LUV Tractor” with Al’s Farm Store. He didn’t want to leave. It was John Deere Heaven! The  Christmas Stores (I get my love for Christmas from my mom). And a few other I can not mention because this Santa did some major Christmas shopping. I made my list, checked it twice, and only a few left and I am done for Christmas 2008!

After some shopping we hit the rides. Michael was able to go on quite a few. He loved the exciting ones. He didn’t like just floating around in the Balloon ride. He wanted the fast jerky Racecar ride. Next year Valley Fair!

The boys headed back after lunch while my Mom and I finished up some shopping.

By the end of the day, we had conquered the mall. I took off my shoes and had litteraly worn a whole through my socks. In my socks defense, it has been a long time since they were new fluffy socks out of the package. But still, it takes a serious shopper to wear a whole through her socks. Darn Socks!

Thanks for posting pictures – we had so much fun this weekend! We smiled at each tractor and combine we saw on the way home.

It was wonderful to see everyone – give the boys kisses and hugs from us. We miss them already!

P.S. – Sequence is on our Christmas list!!!

It was a fun weekend. Michael really enjoyed the race car ride, and Patrick really enjoyed touching the sharks and sting rays. He almost fell in!.

Hey, the benches on your deck look great!

Meg, does your fear of birds extend to fish too, or was it just nerve-wracking to have the kids touching predatory fish?

Fish are the worst. I would rather have a bird sitting on my shoulder than be in a room with a fish tank. Honestly didn’t know it was as bad as it was. I couldn’t look up. I just stared straight down and walked quickly through. Not a good time. Weird, I know. I can’t explain it, that is just the way it is.

Actually, I think it’s pretty normal. I’ve heard or read (don’t remember which) that people who have a fear of birds are often also nervous around fish.

I hear you. I don’t know if I would call what I have a fear, but I get really overwhelmed and nauseous when surrounded by an aquatic environment like that.
