My friend Kelly was over the other day for our weekly play date. She brings her dog Sugar, Michael and Lucy play with Sugar. Patrick stays out of the way of all the chaos. He is completely content sitting high up in his highchair snacking on Cheerios watching and cheering on the chaos below.
The dogs were outside in the back yard doing whatever it is that dogs do and Michael was squealing in delight as he ran in circles yelling, “SPINNING!”
Kelly stated, “We could all learn a little something from children.”
She is right.
All I have to do is smile at Patrick and he screams with delight and runs toward me.
Here are a few things to remind you of how great life can be from Michael and Patrick’s point of view:
- an unending supply of juice.
- Turning the lights on and off
- a real hug and a good snuggle
- finding a long lost toy under the couch
- “BIG YELLOW SCHOOL BUS!”
- finding a Cheerios stuck to your pants just waiting to be eaten
- “WASH HANDS BUBBLES!”
- peek a boo
- seeing mom or dad after a long nap
- “SPLASH BATH NO NO!”
- looking out the window
- petting the dog
- “TREAT Lucy TREAT!”
- banging a wooden spoon on a metal mixing bowl
- “NEW CAR RIDE!”
- running around naked
- “TOILET PAPER!”
- watching a cartoon
- “Ahh OO WAH Heee O O Ohh!”
- “I KNOW DOUBT TWINKLE ROW BOAT DIAMOND STAR!”
- being read too
- “SUNG HOUSE BUG HOUSE!”
- pulling off your sock and finding toes
I do have to agree with the last one for sure. After being stuck inside for the long winter, grass is something to celebrate. It probably won’t be visible for long, but it is a nice reminder that spring will be here… hopefully sooner than later.
Life is good as a toddler. My goal for the next week is to find joy in at least one simple thing every day.
I will post my “Joys” as I discover them.
My first Joy: Heating Guy in the basement banging away during nap time. It is noisy, the boys can’t sleep, they will be cranky, we are confined to upstairs for the 2nd week in a row BUT we will have heat downstairs by the time my family comes tomorrow! JOY!
