PJ’s Ears

Surgery went well. It took all of 5 minutes to do the surgery.

I went with PJ into the OR and sat next to the operating table while the anesthesiologist put a mask on his face. Patrick smiled as he breathed in the gas while the anesthesiologist, the nurse sitting behind him and I sang his favorite song, the itsy bitsy spider. The 3rd time through the song he started smiling at his hands and trying to wiggle them. The nurse said they were going tingly. By the time we started singing the song for the 5th time PJ’s eyes rolled back into his head and he fell limp into the nurses arms. I didn’t think it would be so hard to see him “put under.” I hate that we have to do that again in less than a month with Elise. I can’t imagine how hard that will be…

I was walked to the recovery room by a sympathetic nurse who reasured me that everything would be fine and it would be over very soon. She was right. By the time I composed myself and texted Tim to tell him that PJ was in surgery the doctor came in to tell me that he was all done.

About 10 minutes later I took a sleepy Patrick out of the arms of the nurse. He was upset, disoriented and crying.

We checked in this morning at 8:45 and were driving home at 10.The doc said his ears were full of “goop” and he will be able to hear things he has never been able to hear before.

Right now PJ is curled up on the couch with his blanky and his new favorite (Papa you will love this…) a peanutbutter pancake sandwich! He is watching Thomas and looking good. He is still a little out of it but is content and only pulling at his ears occasionally.
