A Christmas Surprise

Grandpa and Sherlene sent a small box of tiny, beautiful and most importantly kid friendly Christmas ornaments to the kids.
Patrick (who is home sick from school again) helped me open the box.
The very first thing he said as he pulled the first ornament out of the box was said in his most serious of voices. It was the tone of voice that politicians use when talking about the unemployment rate or the stoic, straight faced expression my parents used to give me when they tried to explain how doing my homework was somehow directly linked to getting into college. In that same serious inflection Patrick looked me straight in the eye and stated, “We need to hang these on the tree. Now.”
