This was a collaborative effort by the boys. We are still doing story time quite regularly. You can read the first story we posted here. It is one of our favorite family time activities.
Let me set the scene for you. Sunday morning, everyone is over tired and feeling miserable from this never ending cold bug we have been fighting. None of us are firing on all four cylanders. Not even close. Patrick came up with the idea to play sleep over. Tim and I couldn’t have been more excited about that game choice. Sleep over takes a whole lot less energy than some of the other games they come up with. We piled all the pillows, blankets and stuffed animals we could find in the basement (none of us had the energy to search father than that) into a large pile. We nestled in and got comfy and then Michael decided it was story time.
We spent a good 45 minutes like that. 45 minutes is an eternity for our boys. We enjoyed every minute of it. The boys told dozens of 3 lined stories and multiple stories were started and then slowly fizzled out. Towards the end of story telling we started to actually have a story with a begining, middle and an end.
We all worked our way into the office and the boys dictated the story to Tim.
An untitled story by Patrick and Michael. 12-11-2011
Once upon a time there was a really tall skyscraper. And the skyscraper reached all the way up to the sky because the sky was itchy. And then a big pile of stuffed cuddly animals climbed to the top of the skyscraper and reached out their long arms and hands and they scratched the sky! The sky was really happy because it wasn’t itchy anymore. Then a bad spider came to the top and started scratching the sky. But the bad spider fell into a cave and into a lava lake. Then after it was in the lava lake, it turned into a happy spider. Then a big lightning storm came. The happy spider went back up to the happy cuddly animals to tell them that a lightning storm was coming.
The animals left and the sky was sad because it was itchy again. So the sky blew away all the lightning and clouds, and the sun came out. And then the nice spider said it was safe to go to the top of the skyscraper again. So the animals and the spider climbed to the top of the skyscraper and itched the sky, so the sky was not itchy and scratchy.
